Medical pathology is the leading cause of morbidity, disability, and mortality worldwide. An aging population and the increasing prevalence of risk factors for cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urinary, endocrine, and musculoskeletal diseases require active efforts by medical science and the health care system to develop and implement effective measures for the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of established medical pathologies. The history of Russian medicine contains numerous examples of cutting-edge therapeutic ideas that have been further developed by modern scientific schools.

The publication of the results of new, successful therapeutic research in peer-reviewed, open-access journals undoubtedly contributes to improving the quality of medical care for the population of the Russian Federation. This thematic issue of the journal is dedicated to informing practicing physicians and researchers about new ways to prevent the onset and progression of internal diseases, proposed by reputable research groups based on their own observations. We accept original scientific articles presenting the results of experimental and clinical studies, scientific reviews, and case reports focusing on common and socially significant internal diseases:

- research results in the epidemiology, etiology, and pathogenesis of medical diseases;

- advances in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and organization of therapeutic care;

- current opportunities for optimizing the management of patients with cardiac, pulmonary, gastroenterological, endocrinological, rheumatic, nephrological, and related pathologies in real-world clinical practice.
