ORIGINS OF PSYCHIATRIC STIGMA AND ITS PROSPECTS

Abstract

This article describes how to misconceptions, myths and stereotypes in society for mental patients, lead to discrimination against them, impede their social adaptation and reduce the quality of life. Often such a stigma turns into the second disease that can be for patients heavier than itself a mental disorder. Describes how stigma exposed except for their sick relatives, doctors, psychiatrists and mental health services. Describes the origins of stigmatization and possible ways to mitigate.
